Quadraspire makes three ranges of audio equipment racks designed elevate the performance of your HiFi or Home Theater system. In your listening room, as volume is turned up you may notice sheet rock, picture frames, light fittings and A/C vents begin to rattle and the same thing happens to the furniture you put your gear on and the gear itself. Everything resonates at particular frequencies - even the spindles behind volume knobs. Turntable manufacturers seek to isolate the tonearm from the vibrations of the motor and the plinth which acts as a soundboard for the room. These unwanted vibrations affect the tracing of the minute modulations in vinyl record grooves and the reading of the microscopic pits on CDs, DVDs and Blu Ray disc (CDs have 1.6 µm track & 0.83 µm pit dimensions; vinyl grooves are about 30-50 µm but the modulations are about 100x smaller). Information is lost in much the same way a photograph will be blurred if taked with shaky hands.

Loudspeaker manufacturers go to great lengths using bracing, dampening and advanced materials, to control loudspeaker enclosure resonances which cause coloration. These effects are even more severe on shelves and cabinets; the presence of 2D standing waves on panel surfaces can easily be demonstrated using Chladni's technique. You can use inexpensive HiFi furniture for your gear, but by minimizing the energy of unwanted resonances and vibrations, Quadraspire will make your gear sound better, not worse.

Chaldni patterns are the inspiration of Quadraspire's curved edge and intricate machining cut into the underside of the shelves. Musical instruments are shaped to control resonances but the orientation, thickness and composition of the wood and metal (seasoning and orientation of grain in violins, types of metal used in brass instruments) control the harmonic structure. In addition to using real wood veneered MDF and nonferrous solid aluminum alloy columns, Quadraspire uses Bamboo and phosphor bronze in the new X Reference audio equipment rack, launched to celebrate Quadraspire's 20th anniversary.

The extra work that goes into Quadraspire audio racks makes them more expensive than generic main stream flat pack furniture. But because of the modular design, as a system evolves over the years, the ability to add to, or reconfigure a rack with different shelf spacing, really adds to the long term value. Quadraspire has not changed the basic design since the company was founded and further refinements, such as the bronze upgrade, have always been backwards compatible with existing racks.

You can choose from a variety of real wood veneers, bamboo and glass, and Quadraspire's product builder lets you easily design a complete rack. A wall mounted shelf, LP and CD storage cabinets and other custom furniture is available.
